US Embassy: Gus Dur had many admirers in the US

U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Cameron R. Hume said, "The passing of former President K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid means that Indonesia and its U.S. and other friends around the world have lost an inspiring leader and a great humanitarian."

4th President of Republic Indonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur, has died on December 30, 2009 at 6.45 PM.

"Gus Dur had many admirers in the U.S., and he will be fondly remembered for his moderation and tolerance, respect for justice and human rights, and strong commitment to democracy. Throughout a long and distinguished career, he played a crucial role in the rise of civil society in Indonesia and in the country’s remarkable transition to economic recovery and democracy."
